Speaker of the House of Representatives Dr Anġlu Farrugia, has received a farewell visit from Mr Jubran Taweel, whose tenure of office is soon coming to an end.
Speaker Farrugia expressed his appreciation to Ambassador Taweel for his good efforts to enhance bilateral relations between Malta and Palestine during his stay in Malta, which lasted almost thirteen years. Dr Farrugia said that he still cherished the memories of his official visit to Palestine in March 2016, during which visit he had met, inter alia, with the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
Ambassador Taweel, on his part, thanked Speaker Farrugia for all that Malta has done and is doing for the Palestinian people.
The two dignitaries discussed various topics, such as the situation in Palestine, particularly in Gaza, Malta’s role as Rapporteur of the UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, which position has been occupied by Malta since 1975, as well as the two-State solution. They also highlighted the sterling work being done by Malta’s Representative to Palestine.
Ambassador Taweel was accompanied by his Deputy, First Secretary at the Embassy of Palestine in Malta Mr Fadi Hanania.
