Speaker Anġlu Farrugia received the Honorary Consul Generals and Honorary Consuls representing Malta overseas, who are currently in Malta to participate in the Bi-Annual Meeting of Honorary Consuls.
Speaker Farrugia welcomed these dignitaries and elaborated on some of the Acts enacted by the House of Representatives. He referred to the 109 rulings which he delivered during the last legislature and mentioned the various inter-parliamentary conferences organised under the Parliamentary dimension of the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union. He also highlighted the visits by high Parliamentary delegations, including that by Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament, Pedro Agramunt, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Christine Muttonen, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and the Presidents of the Dutch Senate and Dutch House of Representatives.
Speaker Farrugia finally expressed his gratitude for the valuable service that the Honorary Consul Generals and Honorary Consuls extend voluntarily to Malta and encouraged them to continue in their sterling contribution for a better Malta.
Fiona J. Formosa, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion, led the Honorary Consul Generals and Honorary Consuls, while Paul J.E. Cools, Honorary Consul General to Belgium, on behalf of the Honorary Consul Generals and Honorary Consuls, thanked Speaker Farrugia for receiving them.
