Speaker of the House of Representatives Anġlu Farrugia has received a courtesy visit from Prince of Scilla Don Augusto Ruffo di Calabria, following the latter’s recent appointment as the new Ambassador of the Sovereign Military Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta.

The two dignitaries referred to the very cordial relations that exist between Malta and the Sovereign Mililtary Order of Malta, which in fact go back hundred of years, namely since the time when the Knights arrived in Malta.

Speaker Farrugia mentioned his meetings with the then Grand Master of the Order, who was on a state visit to Malta in April 2015, and with the Grand Chancellor, who was in Malta in September 2015 for the commemoration of the 450th Anniversary of the Great Siege of 1565. He highlighted the importance of closer cooperation between the Parliament of Malta and the Order. 

The issue of fake Orders, as well as the various humanitarian projects which the Malta branch of the Order carries out for the benfit of the Maltese people, also featured in the discussions between Mr Speaker and the SMOM Ambassador.
