Bill No. 156
War Damage (Repeal) Bill Back to List

Fourth Legislature (1976 - 1981)

Objects and Reasons

The Object of the Bill is to wind up the War Damage Commission and at the same time give a reasonable time to those persons to whom compensation is still due under the War Damage Ordinance, 1943, to receive such compensation provided they complete all necessary procedures and works within the time set by the Bill.

The Government further intends to make use of this Bill and of other powers conferred on it by other Laws, in particular the Land Requisition (Public Purposes) Ordinance, Cap. 136, to remove, as far as practical, the eyesores that will remain notwithstanding the further extension that is being given to owners of war-damaged property to carry out the necessary works.
