Deputy Speaker receives the Ambassador of Luxembourg on a courtesy visit
Deputy Speaker Claudette Buttigieg received Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Paul Dühr on a courtesy visit.
Deputy Speaker Buttigieg welcomed the new Luxembourgish Ambassador and said that, following the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malta and Luxembourg in 1969, the two countries have shared an excellent relationship that was substantially enhanced when Malta joined the European Union.
Deputy Speaker Buttigieg and Ambassador Dühr discussed issues of mutual interest, including bilateral trade, which has been rather low. The two dignitaries noted the similarities that exist between Malta and Luxembourg, particularly the size of their respective financial sector. They spoke about the outcome of Brexit and its effect on Malta and Luxembourg.
The forthcoming celebrations marking Valletta as the European Capital of Culture in 2018 also featured in the talks between the Deputy Speaker and the Ambassador.
