PR171265 - The Speaker pays a courtesy visit to the President of Ukraine – 16.05.17

The President of the Republic of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko received a courtesy call by Speaker Anġlu Farrugia.

 

President Poroshenko and Speaker Farrugia  referred to the very good bilateral relations that exist between the Republic of Ukraine and Malta.

 

The two dignitaries discussed issues of mutual interest, such as cooperation between the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine and the Parliament of Malta, particularly with regard to the formation of a Parliamentary Friendship Group between the two institutions.

 

The relations between the EU and Ukraine were also mentioned, including the signing of the EU-Ukraine Visa Liberation Action Plan and the commitment by both sides regarding the entry into force of the  Association Agreement/Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. The situation in East Ukraine also featured in the talks, with the two dignitaries underscoring the importance of the full implementation of the Minsk Agreement by all sides.

 

The President of the Republic of Ukraine was accompanied by Mr Pavlo Klimkin, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukrane; Kostiantyn Yelisieiev, Deputy Chief of Staff, Presidential Administration and Chief Foreign Policy Adviser to the Presidnet of Ukraine; Mr Yevhen Perelygin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Italian Republiuc, the Republic of Malta and the Republic of San Marino; Mrs Maria IONOVA, MP, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine on European Integration, and Mrs Maryna Mykhailenko, Deputy Director, Directorate General for Policy and European Integration.

 

Speaker Anġlu Farrugia was accompanied by Mr Ray Scicluna, Clerk of the House; Mr Ancel Farrugia Migneco, Personal Assistant to the Speaker; Miss Eleanor Scerri, Director International Relations, HoR; Mr Peter Paul Mallia, Director, HoR; and Mr Giovanni Miceli, Adviser International Relations, HoR.
