Objects and Reasons

The Object of this Bill is to take into consideration for the purpose of assessing the pensionable emoluments in respect of service by members who have held the office of Speaker, or Prime Minister, or Minister, or Parliamentary Secretary, or Deputy Speaker or Leader of the Opposition, any period of time during which such members have held such office for a period of less than five years, or any two or more of such offices for an aggregate period of less than five years. The Bill also provides for pensions granted under the Members of Parliament Pensions Act, 1979, to be considered as service pension.
