Objects and Reasons

The objects and reasons of this Bill are to revise the method of appointment of the Chairman and the members of the Permanent Commission Against Corruption and includes provisions for an antideadlock mechanism in the appointment of the Chairman. The Bill enhances the powers of the Commission by widening the definition of corrupt practices and provides for an additional power whereby when the Commission finds a corrupt practice or an appearance thereof it is to report directly to the Attorney General.
